iVANKY FusionDock Pro 3 Review: The Ultimate Thunderbolt 5 Dock

Apple’s latest M4 Pro Macs, including the MacBook Pro and Mac Mini, bring Thunderbolt 5 to the table for the first time, unlocking massive bandwidth gains of up to 120 Gbps for video and data-heavy workflows. But to make the most of that power, you’ll need a dock that can keep up.

Enter the iVANKY FusionDock Pro 3 – a premium Thunderbolt 5 dock designed specifically with Mac users in mind. It not only lets you tap into those blistering transfer speeds, but also offers a wide range of ports to streamline your entire setup.

Design

The dock sports a clean, modern look with a mix of metal and high-quality plastic that feels both rugged and solid. It is a sizeable, weighty piece of gear, but that heft reassures you that it is built to last. Although the external power brick is relatively large, it fits with what is expected from a product offering these kinds of speeds.

Specs

The FusionDock Pro 3 delivers on its promises. It offers three Thunderbolt 5 ports that double the bandwidth of previous models, making it one of the fastest options for Mac data transfers. Even as a Thunderbolt 5 dock, it does not leave older Macs in the dust, as it is fully backward compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and 4 devices.

On the rear, two Thunderbolt 5 ports allow you to connect two high-resolution displays simultaneously. For Apple users, this means you can easily hook up a 5K Studio Display or the 6K Pro Display XDR. On the front, a single Thunderbolt 5 port provides 140W of fast charging power for your MacBook Pro or other devices.

Beyond the headline Thunderbolt ports, the dock includes three USB-A ports (with two offering 10 Gbps), a 2.5GbE ethernet port, an audio jack and a fast SD card slot that supports the latest UHS-II SD 4.0 cards. The SD card slot can hit a maximum write speed of 156 MB per second. For M4 Mac Mini users like myself, having such a fast SD card slot is a genuinely handy addition.

Performance

After several weeks of testing, the FusionDock Pro 3 has performed without a hitch. It offers true plug and play integration so your setup is ready quickly. The dock works flawlessly with my M4 Mac Mini and Studio Display setup, and it has easily handled charging my iPad Pro and iPhone as well as powering my keyboard and external SSD.

Regarding temperatures, the dock warms up a bit during use but nothing to worry about as long as you provide good airflow in your setup.

Final Thoughts

The iVANKY FusionDock Pro 3 is a top docking solution for MacBook and Mac Mini users. It offers lightning fast Thunderbolt 5 speeds and lets you connect two high-resolution displays with ease. Coupled with a variety of other connections, it stands out as a balanced product that meets all your docking needs.

With a price tag of over £300, this is most definitely a high-end dock, but the future-proofed specs and seamless performance justify that cost. For Mac-based creatives of all kinds, but particularly video professionals, this could be the only dock you need for the next decade.
