The DJI Mic Mini is a compact and affordable wireless microphone system designed for content creators seeking high-quality audio without the bulk or expense of more advanced setups.
I’ve been using mine for the last few weeks in combination with both my Canon R6 mirrorless camera and my iPhone 14 Pro, and it has consistently delivered solid performance. Priced at £145, the system includes a receiver, two transmitters, a charging case, and various accessories, with an option to purchase a single transmitter and receiver bundle for £79.
Design and Build
Weighing just 10 grams per transmitter, the Mic Mini is exceptionally lightweight, making it easy to attach to clothing without causing discomfort or fabric distortion. The compact design enhances portability, allowing creators to carry and set up the system effortlessly.
The tiny size of the microphone transmitters make it ideal for content creators like myself, as they are so easy to hide on or off camera for the unboxing and product video content that I produce.
Audio Quality
Obviously you have to keep your expectations in check, after all, this is a relatively inexpensive consumer-level mic, but overall I’ve been genuinely pleased with the audio quality provided.
I already have a wired Blue Yeti Nano that I use for my desk-based voiceover work, so for me this an additional wireless option to be used for ASMR style product videos and the occasional voiceover that can’t be performed at my desk.
The Mic Mini delivers impressive audio quality suitable for a range of recording scenarios. It features two levels of noise cancellation: a basic mode for indoor environments to reduce ambient sounds like fans or studio lights, and a strong mode for noisier outdoor settings to focus on vocals.
While it lacks the internal recording and intelligent noise-canceling features found in the higher-end DJI Mic 2, the Mic Mini compensates with automatic audio limiting to prevent distortion and maintains clear sound capture.
Battery Life
One of the standout features of the Mic Mini is its impressive battery performance. The transmitters offer up to 11.5 hours of continuous use, and the receiver up to 10.5 hours. The included charging case extends the total operational time to up to 48 hours, ensuring that creators can rely on the system for extended recording sessions without recharging.
Connectivity and Compatibility
The Mic Mini offers versatile connectivity options, including USB-C, Lightning, and a 3.5mm audio cable, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices such as smartphones, professional cameras, and DJI’s own ecosystem, including the Osmo Action and Pocket series.
It’s worth noting that the main kit does not include the Lightning adaptor, so this is something you’ll have to purchase separately if you have an older iPhone like mine. The system boasts a transmission range of up to 400 meters under optimal conditions, providing flexibility for various shooting environments. I’ve not personally tested these distances as I primarily record and shoot content in a controlled indoor environment.
User Experience
So far I’ve found the Mic Mini to be both reliable and super easy to use. It’s always paired quickly and without hassle with used with both my Canon R6 and iPhone 14 Pro. It feels slightly awkward when attached to the bottom of an iPhone but you soon get used to it. However I’ve mostly used this mic in combination with my Canon R6, and this has been a more refined experience.
When using with my R6 I’ve found it best to set the Receiver gain to +6 and my camera volume at 4. This provides a solid baseline that can be adjusted depending on what you’re shooting and recording. One slight negative is the Mic Mini receiver doesn’t have a screen for monitoring audio levels, so you’ll have no choice but to do this on camera.

The DJI Mic Mini offers a compelling blend of portability, audio quality, and affordability, making it an excellent choice for content creators looking to upgrade from built-in device microphones.
While it omits some advanced features found in higher-end models, its impressive battery life, ease of use, and versatile connectivity make it a strong contender in the wireless microphone market. The value for money offered here is also excellent.
For me it’s provided a versatile wireless audio option that will now be a permanent part of my creator toolkit.
